"13" Cyber Clues To 9/11 Pilot

'13' CYBER CLUES TO 9/11 PILOT

    February 14, 2006 -- EXCLUSIVE

WASHINGTON — An active-duty military intelligence analyst has told congressional investigators that 9/11 pilot Mohamed Atta surfaced 13 times in a controversial Pentagon computer program before he executed the attacks, The Post has learned.

Congressional sources said last night that an officer in the Pentagon's secretive Land Information Warfare Center told the staff of Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) about the computer hits.

The revelation is significant because the 9/11 commission has asserted that Atta was not on the intelligence community's radar screen before the attacks.

The commission had also dismissed assertions from Weldon and others that a program known as Able Danger had linked Atta to a Brooklyn cell and included his photo on a chart of al Qaeda suspects.

The quirky program combed through massive amounts of data to locate terrorists' connections.

The fact that the program flagged Atta should have provided a lead that apparently wasn't followed, observers say.

If Able Danger was able to link Atta to a Brooklyn cell, then that would contradict many people's theories that Atta was working with intel. (assuming it's true)

    Congressman: Ringleader ID'ed Pre-9/11

    Feb 14, 2006 6:15 pm US/Eastern

(1010 WINS) (WASHINGTON) Pre-Sept. 11 intelligence conducted by a secret military unit identified terrorist ringleader Mohamed Atta 13 different times, a congressman said Tuesday.

During a Capitol Hill news conference, Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., said the unit, code-named ``Able Danger'', also identified ``a problem'' in Yemen two weeks before the attack on the USS Cole. It knew the problem was tied into the port of Aden and involved a U.S. platform, but the ship commander was not made aware of it, Weldon said.

The suicide bombing of the Cole killed 17 sailors on Oct. 12, 2000.

If anyone had told the Cole's commander that there was any indication of a problem in Aden, ``he would not have gone there,'' Weldon told reporters. ``He had no clue.''

Weldon would not say who provided evidence of such intelligence to him.

Since August, Weldon, vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has pushed Congress and the Pentagon to investigate the workings of Able Danger, which used data mining to identify links that might indicate the workings of terrorists. If he is correct, it would change the timeline for when government officials first became aware of Atta's links to al-Qaida.

Former members of the Sept. 11 commission have dismissed Weldon's findings.

Cmdr. Greg Hicks, a Pentagon spokesman, released a statement saying that Pentagon officials welcome the opportunity to address these issues during a hearing scheduled Wednesday before a subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee.

Oh, I forgot to mention, "...unless of course that cell was also working for us as well" at the end of my sentence. Thanks.

Is the Brooklyn Cell the cell of the Blind Sheikh and the WTC 93 bombings? Because that wouldn't contradict anything.

I mean contradict the theory that Atta had links with intel, and was running a covert op so he could be set up to be the fall guy for the attacks. That theory.
