"Last October, the Central Asia Gas Pipeline Consortium, called CentGas, in which Unocal holds an interest, was formed to develop a gas pipeline which will link Turkmenistan's vast Dauletabad gas field with markets in Pakistan and possibly India. The proposed 790-mile pipeline will open up new markets for this gas, traveling from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan to Multan in Pakistan. The proposed extension would move gas on to New Delhi, where it would connect with an existing pipeline. As with the proposed Central Asia oil pipeline, CentGas can not begin construction until an internationally recognized Afghanistan Government is in place."

i think this text is also in the appendix of Nafeez Ahmed's War on Freedom, or at least similar testimony.

i find it truly amazing what we, the people, don't know about what goes on inside our government. this testimony may have even been broadcsted on CSPAN, but the people wouldn't know it OR CARE. However, i do feel it is changing.

it is apparent that these briefings are laying the groundwork for eventual confrontation or support of whatever sect gains the upperhand in Afghanistan, which is why after the Taliban gained control of Kabul, major players were stepping up to support their continued control (regardless of human rights, democracy, drugs trafficking...every reason why we claim to be there now)

don't forget, the US government was the biggest financial backer of the taliban before 9-11 and that they had an office in this country and we were paying the salaries of taliban leaders...not to mention oil reps were meeting these people in Texas on a continual basis to negotiate oil deals EVEN before the Taliban had secured control.
