British Muslims Fear UK Police Shoot-to-Kill Policy

Muslims in UK are apprehensive following the killing of an innocent man by the London police for allegedly not complying with a call to halt at the London tube on Friday, July 22.

British police following the bomb attacks in London first on July 7 and the second on July 21 have created a "psychological target" syndrome in Muslim society/community living in the UK. This is causing shock and dismay in the Muslim community," said Inayat Bunglawala, spokesman for the Muslim Council of Britain. "There is enormous anxiety." We are getting phone calls from quite a lot of Muslims who are distressed about the shoot-to-kill policy, "he added. One caller, asked, "What if I was carrying a rucksack?" said Bungawala. He urged police should explain for why it shot dead the man at Stockwell subway station.

The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) chairman Massoud Shadjareh released a statement condemning the British police's shoot-to-kill policy. Shadjareh said, "IHRC fears that innocent people may lose their lives due to the new 'shoot to kill' policy of the Metropolitan Police." Some nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) have also said the policy has increased tension in London. London Mayor Ken Livingstone and British police; however, defended their policy. Livingstone said the best way to overcome suspected suicide bombers was the shoot-to-kill policy.

the guy was shot cause he was running from the police and he was jumping over the barriers and trying to get into the subway without paying etc etc etc. he looked like he was a criminal and because of the events earlier they shot thinking he was a bomber. i can see why they did it.
