Jon,

Now that the constraints of Bush's administration have been lifted, do you have any plans to submit requests on 9/11 under the Freedom of Information Act? I imagine the Gov't is going to be flooded with requests.


The Department of Justice (DOJ) generally is required under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to disclose records requested in writing by any person. However, agencies may withhold information pursuant to nine exemptions and three exclusions contained in the statute. The FOIA applies only to federal agencies and does not create a right of access to records held by Congress, the courts, or by state or local government agencies. Each state has its own public access laws that should be consulted for access to state and local records.

I don't know how to do it. There is someone named Aidan Monaghan who is sending out several of them. I guess I should learn how to do it. According to the press release regarding the release of the 9/11 Commission's records, conveniently, "because the Commission was part of the legislative branch, its records are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)."
