Washington, DC (AHN) - A much-awaited CIA internal report revealing how individual agent's performed in the months leading up to the 9/11 attacks is slated to be released by September 3. Government accountability activists and widows of 9/11 victims have been advocating for the report's release since it was completed two years ago.

The mandate comes from a little-noticed addendum to the massive 9/11 bill signed into law last Friday. The law addresses many of the 9/11 Commission's unfulfilled recommendations, including the release of the report, which the CIA has refused to disclose up until now. A CIA spokesman told The Hill that the agency intends to comply.

For security concerns, the report, entitled "CIA Accountability with Respect to the 9/11 Attacks," will be redacted prior to it's release. Questions remain as to how much will be declassified.

Although CIA Director Porter J. Goss said in a statement that the "the extraordinary bulk of the report goes into the inner workings of this Agency and our sources and methods," much of it is also said to name individuals close to the case in the months preceding the attacks, half of whom have since left the agency.
