I just don't understand what the U.S. stands to gain by allowing Saddam to go free in exchange for a promised cease-fire. Wasn't it Bush who called Saddam a liar and said Saddam was willing to say anything to get his way? I'm sure if you go through transcripts of Bush's interviews, he uses the literal terms "liar" and "evil" many times over.
What the hell could Saddam do anyway? He has no power over the Iraqis anymore. He gave himself up instead of risking his life to fight off the evil Zionists.... that's pretty much political suicide in the Middle East.
