Pakistan's government has denied a report that up to 50 officials from the US Central Intelligence Agency are in the country hunting for Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

A report in the Los Angeles Times at the weekend says a major hunt for bin Laden by the CIA has failed to find any significant leads on his whereabouts.

The report quotes US officials as saying that Al-Qaeda has a command base in Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan that is being increasingly funded by cash coming out of Iraq.

US officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney have alleged that Al-Qaeda is regrouping in the troubled tribal zone bordering Afghanistan.

A Pakistani foreign office official says there is no Al-Qaeda base on Pakistan's territory.
