(11/13/06 - SANTA ANA, CA) - Federal prosecutors want four prison gang members, convicted of murder and facing life in prison, to be barred from having visits, letters or phone calls from anyone but their attorneys.

But federal judge David Carter, in Orange County, California, called the restrictions "horrendous," and postponed sentencing the four members of the Aryan Brotherhood pending a hearing next week.

Carter told prosecutors they'll need the US attorney general to approve the restrictions, which are imposed very rarely. Inmates under similar restrictions include Zacarias Moussaoui, who was linked to 9-11, Unabomber Ted Kaczynski and Ramzi Yousef, mastermind of the 1993 bombing of New York's World Trade Center.

Carter said another man he imposed such restrictions on is slowly going crazy.

The four Aryan Brotherhood members were convicted of murder, conspiracy and racketeering.
