JERUSALEM (AP) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has accepted an emerging Mideast cease-fire deal and informed the United States of his decision, Israeli officials said Friday.

Olmert will recommend that his government approve the deal in its meeting on Sunday, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief journalists on the internal discussions.

It was not immediately clear whether Israel's expanded ground offensive would be frozen. Defense officials said it appeared the campaign would be halted.

What were the terms of the Cease-Fire, do you know?

Something like "Hezbollah agrees to stop all attacks, Israel agrees to halt all offensive action" - I think the operative word there is 'offensive', they can still carry out (ahem) 'defensive' actions.

I don't think Israel is required to pull out either, so it should last oh, about a day... if the Israeli parliament even votes it through that is.

    From The Guardian:

The United Nations security council unanimously approved a resolution late last night, calling for an end to the conflict in Lebanon.

The resolution demanded a "full cessation of hostilities", and authorised the deployment of up to 15,000 UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.

That force would stand between Israeli forces and Hizbollah as Israel withdraws completely from the south of the country and Hizbollah ceases all military activity.

The Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert, last night called George Bush to signal his agreement, and government sources say his cabinet will approve the UN resolution this weekend but warned it may take time to implement.

Israel refused to halt air strikes until the ceasfire is approved, continuing the major ground offensive it launched yesterday.

Mr Halutz told Sky News the army will obey the ceasefire only once it is implemented and will continue to operate until Israel achieves its aims.

Is that what you're talking about? I'd never heard of it until now. Don't have time to read it right now (relations visiting in a minute), but will do later.

You either agree to a cease-fire, or you don't. How do you agree to a cease-fire, and still have "air strikes", and a "major ground offensive"?

Hezbollah, Hizbollah, Hizbullah, Hezbullah, however you spell it, was created because of Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 1982. Much like the "Iraqi Insurgency" was created because of the United States invasion of Iraq.
