Perhaps tomorrow you could have posted the same thing and it wouldn't have bothered me. But today, as I sit here watching the video feed from the Vatican, and I see thousands of people praying, with tears running down their faces, I can just imagine walking up to them and repeating your words. And that, would be a very cruel thing.
I understand both of your points. On one hand I think most of us can relate to what SS said (It's about time). Did she express her views at the wrong time? I don't know. This is a BB after all and the intention of a BB is to express opinions and thoughts.
I do see your point too, pcteaser. I actually shed a tear when I heard the news... for some reason this news hurts me. I was also hurt when I heard about Terri Schiavo passing away. These people have been made a part of our lives and I truely sympathise for those close to them.
I try to look at all sides of the spectrum when reading peoples thoughts and views on these types of things.

Here's what I don't get. Why is it a day of mourning? The people mourning him, as well as the pope, believe they/he go to Heaven when you die. So they should be rejoicing that he's finally gone "home" and joined God.

With all due respect (s)he didn't walk up to those people and say it.

And this is a bulletin board. The point is to share varying opinions.

I don't disagree with you at all. But how can she know how many devout Catholics may be reading this board? So in effect, she did just walk up to those people and say it.

My objection is to the timing.

As for why people mourn at this time. I find that hard to verbalize. I, myself, am not a religious person. But I feel very sad today. The Pope showed himself to be a good man thru the years. I may not have always agreed with him or the Catholic teachings, but I will miss him. He believed in God and Heaven above and I'm sure that he died thinking that he was going to a better place. And in that respect, I am happy for him.

“Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil; thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder. Therefore special concern and pastoral attention should be directed to those who have this condition, lest they be led to believe that the living out of this orientation in homosexual activity is a morally acceptable option. It is not.”
Quote from Pope John Paul II in 1986.

Before we start the canonization proceedings, let's remember that nobody's perfect.

I have an opinion on something and I'm going to express it. Like WGST and Ophie pointed out, this is a BB and expressing thoughts and opinions is exactly what you do here. If you don't like the idea of people expressing their thoughts and opinions, then maybe you should reevaluate why you come here.
To turn your point around, I believe that Catholicism is wrong. So should you not be able to express that you're sad about the Pope dying? Absolutely not! People have differing views and you have to just deal with the fact that some don't believe the same things and EVERYONE is entitled to their opinions and voicing them. That is exactly why Gold started this place!!!

That is exactly my point, Ophie!!! He's lived a long life and he was in constant agony for the past month, it was his time! They all believe he is in a better place and there is no point in dragging it on any further!

First off, no one is reevaluating why they come here... secondly, you both are right, and you both are wrong. Simply_Sexy, maybe you should have held off until tomorrow... as I said earlier, to whomever this affects, my sympathies go out to you, but I honestly could care less... I am someone who thought exactly as you did. I hate religion just as much as the next guy... and you have a right to express your opinion, regardless of whether it's appropriate or not...

pcteaser, you are right because it might have been inappropriate of her to voice her opinion in that fashion, but I don't think she was trying to be hurtful. She was just voicing her opinion.

Now both of you kiss and make up... oh yeah... that's it... just like that...
