New York, NY (AHN) - The former New York City Police Commissioner, who presided over the city during the attacks on September 11th, Bernard Kerik has pleaded guilty to charges of accepting gifts while he ran the Big Apple's police department.

Kerik, admitted to accepting $165,000 worth of renovations on his apartment from a company attempting to do business with the city, and will pay $221,000 in fines.

Outside of court, Kerik tells reporters, "The last year and a half has been a tremendous burden. But today it's over. Now I can get on with my business."

Kerik, once called on by President Bush to be the U.S. Homeland Security Chief, never took the top post after a scandal involving not paying taxes for a nanny/housekeeper came to light.
