WAYNESVILLE — High school students in Haywood County involved in extracurricular activities or with campus driving privileges will be subject to random drug testing.

The Haywood County Board of Education approved the new policy Monday night.

Board members will hire a certified contractor to administer the tests. Once chosen, the contractor will remain anonymous, according to Associate Superintendent Bill Nolte.

The policy will start at the beginning of the 2006-07 school year. Testing can occur at any time during school hours.
