    When The Media Attacks

    When The Media Attacks

This is nothing new to those of us that have been doing this a while, but I wanted to point it out nevertheless. It’s happened to Charlie Sheen, Rosie O’Donnell, and Willie Nelson. When someone that has celebrity status questions the official account, the media attacks them. Charlie, Rosie, and Willie haven’t issued statements of “regret” through their lawyers though. Why is it blasphemy to question the official account? Doesn’t this just seem wrong to you? It certainly does to me.

    First we had this…

    Marion Cotillard’s 9/11 conspiracy theory

Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard was facing embarrasment with her new American public last night after it emerged that she doubted the official account of the September 11 attacks.

The 32-year-old French star has swept this year’s best actress awards, also receiving a Bafta, Golden Globe and a César for her performance as singer Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

Miss Cotillard, who earned under £1 million in 2007, could expect her Oscar success to significantly increase her earning power. She is due to start filming Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.

But the actress faces a potential backlash in the US over comments she made in an interview in France. Footage which surfaced on the internet showed her questioning the New York terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the 1969 moon landing.

“I think we’re lied to about a number of things,” she said, singling out September 11.

Referring to the two passenger jets flown into the World Trade Centre, Miss Cotillard said: “We see other towers of the same kind being hit by planes, are they burned? There was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burned for 24 hours.

It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed.”

Miss Cotillard suggested that the towers, planned in the early 1960s, were an outdated “money sucker” which would have cost so much to modernise that it was easier to destroy them.

Turning to America’s space programme, she said: “Did a man really walk on the moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don’t believe all they tell me, that’s for sure.”

Miss Cotillard, who was born and brought up in Paris, made the comments on Paris Première – Paris Dernière (Paris First – Paris Last), a programme first broadcast a year ago.

They were largely ignored at the time, but appeared yesterday on a French website. Miss Cotillard’s film career began in Luc Besson’s 1998 film Taxi. She is an environmental activist, who once worked as a spokeswoman for Greenpeace.

News of Miss Cotillard’s comments comes at a time when Franco-American relations appear to be thawing, following Paris’s refusal to support the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

President Nicolas Sarkozy insists that he is pro-American, supporting so-called Anglo-Saxon economic reforms and going on holiday to America.

Followed by all of these, and more…

Marion Cotillard ‘regrets’ her 9/11 remarks

    Source: news.com.au

    March 03, 2008 12:00am

OSCAR-winning actress Marion Cotillard has been “taken out context” with her stunning comments about the September 11 attacks, it was claimed today.

The French star’s lawyer steeped in after footage was aired of her admitting to doubts about the official version of the 2001 attacks in the US.

“I think we’re lied to about a lot of things,” she said during a television program first broadcast last year which has resurfaced on the internet.

The actress, who picked up the award for playing Edith Piaf in the French film La Vie En Rose, cited the attacks on New York and Washington in 2001 as one example, adding: “I tend to believe in the conspiracy theory.”

Do you agree with Cotillard? Share your views below.

Cotillard could not be reached today but her lawyer, Vincent Toledano, said she had “never intended to contest nor question the attacks of September 11, 2001, and regrets the way old remarks have been taken out of context.”

In the video, the 32-year-old Parisian talks about watching films on the internet challenging the official version of the September 11 attacks, saying “its fascinating, even addictive”.

She continues: “Did man really walk on the moon? Me, I’ve seen a fair few documentaries on the subject. That, really, I question. In any case I don’t believe everything people tell me, that’s for sure.”

The one and perhaps only upside of all of this is that newspapers around the world have reprinted her comments. You can't buy this kind of press (for truth).

At this point, people who think she's out of line are the people who will never be convinced otherwise; so I don't consider losing them a problem.

The thing that I enjoy is watching news outlets like Fox continue to brainwash people into thinking the word "Conspiracy" means something other than it does.

If you completely and totally agree with the official account, then you believe a "Conspiracy" took place.

Marion Cotillard 'in shock' over 9/11 row, but will not apologise

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle3477645.ece

    3/3/2008

Marion Cotillard, the Oscar-winning French actress, will not apologise over remarks she made describing the 9/11 attacks as a conspiracy and believes that the comments had been taken out of context and misunderstood.

Cotillard, who won the Best Actress statuette last week for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, has claimed that the September 11 atrocity had been orchestrated by the owners of the Twin Towers.

The comments, made in an interview first broadcast a year ago, have resurfaced on the internet since her Oscar victory.

Cotillard said that the towers were destroyed not as part of a terrorist plot, but because it would have been too expensive to rewire them. She also reheated an old conspiracy theory about the 1969 moon landing never having happened.

The actress's agent, Bastien Duval, told The Times that Cotillard, who charmed the crowd with her emotional acceptance speech after winning her Oscar, was "still in shock" at the angry reaction to her comments in the United States.

Mr Duval said that the interview was filmed after a broadcast on Coluche, a French comedian killed in a motorcycle accident in 1986, and she had simply made clear that she intended to form her own opinion about the events of September 11 rather than follow the official version, that it was a terrorist attack led by al-Qaeda.

"This reportage has been taken out of context and one can only condemn such practices," he said.

"Marion deplores that. She is currently filming in Chicago and has a lot of work. She is in an ocean of happiness and voila, this row blows up. It's rather strange. It's an old report, not at all current. Why bring it out now ?

"I talked three times to Marion overnight. This is worrying her. She is still in shock and does not really know how to react. She doesn't have to apologise for a badly presented and badly interpreted reportage."

He added: "She hopes that the Americans will have enough distance to understand, but her career is not just American. She can make films everywhere."

The New York Post has said that the 32-year-old actress had jeopardised the goodwill created by her Oscar win with her comments about the "money-sucking" towers.

It pointed out that she was soon to start filming her biggest role yet, in Public Enemies with Johnny Depp.

Readers of the Post's online edition were less charitable, dozens of them posting comments attacking Cotillard.

"She's just another moron talking about a subject she knows nothing about," said one. "The fact the she's also French adds insult to injury."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today said it would not revoke Ms Cotillard's Oscar.

"The opinions expressed by Academy Award winners are solely their own," said Leslie Unger, a spokeswoman for the Academy, whose 5,829 members voted Ms Cotillard the best actress of 2007, beating other nominees, including Julie Christie.

"Ms Cotillard is free to express whatever views she has, but they have nothing to do with the Academy or the Academy Awards. Oscars are not revoked in light of any expressions of opinion. The Oscar is recognition of work done in film; nothing more and nothing less."

Our animosity towards the French stems from years of inbred hatred all based on the fact the Frogs managed to colonize and maintain control over most of the African energy reserves ....a feat not accomplished by the Brits or the USA ...sorta like hating the Yankees because then win all the time.

Now they're saying she would not have won the Oscar if these comments had been known earlier.
