Is 9/11 like conspiracy in the making?

Islamabad—An Israeli intelligence site claimed Sunday that “US president-elect Barack Obama, European and Russian heads of states in Washington G20 conference were briefed over the weekend about a probable early al Qaeda attack.”

Isreali intelligence news site, “Debka”, also claimed that “Obama and his team have been advised that a new al Qaeda strike is highly probable in the United States or against a key US target in Europe, North Africa or the Middle East.”

However, there was no indication from the American official or media about such a possible attack or conspiracy.

The “Debka” claim coincided with a regional intelligence report that Israeli Mossad and Indian RAW regional chiefs have held an important meeting in a European capital and discussed “possible preparatory reaction” to a new mystery yet to unfold. Regional watchers have also cautioned against fast growing strategic and secret cooperation between certain foreign elements in the neighorbood of Pakistan.

DEBKA report claimed that al Qaeda’s Yemen base, a reliable barometer for Osama bin Laden’s schemes, issued a Directive to All Fighters in Arabia on Nov. 9 presaging a major operation in the United States that will “change the political and economic world” and be “far bigger than 9/11.”

Israeli source claimed that the Al Qaeda “notice said the operation “is very near” and “precise instructions were in the hands of “the fighters, who are already on their way to America” armed with bin Laden’s orders. The pretext offered for the attack is the rejection by the US and Europe of al Qaeda’s four-year old truce offer whose original pre-condition was the withdrawal of their armies from Iraq and Afghanistan.

On Nov. 14 Times Online also quoted US CIA chief Micheal Hayden as expressing fears that “AL Qaeda may launch an attack” during transition period.

According to Times General Michael Hayden, director of the CIA, this week acknowledged that there were dangers during a presidential transition when new officials were coming in and getting accustomed to the challenges. But he added that no “real or artificial spike” in intercepted transmissions from terror suspects had been detected.

The report added that President Bush has repeatedly described the acute vulnerability of the US during a transition. “The Bush Administration has been defined largely by the 9/11 attacks, which came within a year of his taking office”, Times report added.

Times also quoted Lord West of Spithead, the Home Office Security Minister as speaking recently of a “huge threat”, saying: “There is another great plot building up again and we are monitoring this.”

Regional geo-strategic observers were still unable to translate the so-called Al Qaeda “warning” coming via Israeli sources but several experts expressed fears that “a new 9/11-style conspiracy” was in the making to revive the strategic objectives at a time when “change” in the White House and Pentagon was imminent.

Some observers also took the warning as a fresh move to push for a new offensive against certain Islamic states already at odds with hawks in U.S., Israel and India.

Some American liberal sources are also expressing fear that “a big bang might hit the United States before transition of power in the United States.

The warnings of a new terrorist attack on US shores are accelerating: Iran recruiting homicide bombers to attack the US, Britain becoming a staging area for al Qaeda, Arab press reporting that Usama Bin Laden was planning an attack that would dwarf 9/11 are all headlines from the last few weeks.

Now according to the Times of London, both British and US Homland security have warned President-elect Barack Obama that there is a HUGE threat of a spectacular al Qaeda attack during the Presidental transition.

President-elect Obama shares Bush's view that the next 9/11 type attack would originate from FATA. Can the superpower subdue the valiant Afghans and consolidate its rule in the war-torn country? Is the insurgency in FATA, which is essentially the fallout of Afghan war, our war as made out at great pains by our government?

The next 9/11-type attack could trigger from FATA only if the first one did, therefore, Bush's and Obama's contentions about FATA are preposterous. A large majority round the world understands that the Taliban had no link with it. The space-age operation was beyond the capability of stone-age rustics. It was an inside job by the intelligence networks with enormous resources at their disposal. Mossad and rogue elements in CIA were the most likely perpetrators hence no serious inquiry commission was set-up.

Historically, inquiry commission for Pearl Harbour was instituted within seven days, Titanic sinking-six days, Challenger disaster-seven days, JFK assassination-7 days but 9/11 had to wait for 441 days. What was the dithering about?

Information technology has greatly progressed, with information gleaned from Internet having become a household affair among the thinking public. The in-camera briefing to the informed parliamentarians, therefore, failed to convince them as expected. Even if the parliamentarians were convinced the people could not have taken the bait that the War On Terror is our war. It cannot be. We are fighting to promote US interests in the region and are being paid for it. On a larger canvas US troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and ME are pipelines-protection troops, while War On Terror is only a subterfuge to delude the gullible.

We are expected to believe that suicide attacks in our cities are the outcome of religious extremism poured out from neighbouring Afghanistan. Was there a single incident of suicide attack during the decade long indigenous struggle against Russia? Similarly, was there any incident of suicide attack in Iraq before the US invasion? When we fight at the behest of a rapacious foreign power, we must be ready to bear the consequences. And the consequences are borne by the downtrodden, the shirtless, not by the hermetically secured oligarchy.

Some think that strikes in FATA by US drones are due to lack of credible intelligence. It's a misconception. The truth is that missile strikes are meant to harass and annihilate the local population to compel it to vacate its ancestral dwellings to create a corridor of US domination.

Moreover, the US plans to lay oil pipelines through Afghanistan, FATA, Balochistan and Gwadar. The wanton killing in the FATA is part of its grand design to exploit oil and gas resources of the Central Asian States. Recently Adm Mullen told Los Angles Times that the American forces had secured bases north of Islamabad to train Pakistani soldiers. But Asia Times Online reported that the situation on the ground revealed much more than a training programme. In September, about 300 US trainers landed at the facility. Hasanpur airstrip near Tarbela that has been upgraded to war readiness with new hangers built for the military aircraft. Perhaps drone strikes in FATA would now be launched from the newly acquired base.
