My problem with US nuclear rhetoric

In the leadup to the Iraqi war, the US dismissed reports by independent investigations that Iraq had no nuclear infrastructure. The US's argument was that there is other ways Iraq could develop nukes and it had the obligation to prove that it wasn't doing so. Ultimately, the US's position was that Iraq had to prove a negative, which logically is impossible. Its impossible to disprove all possibilities, no matter what the issue is. Well, that same ridiculous illogical logic is being used against Iran because. The only reason real reason we've been given is that the Bush administration strongly believes Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons.

Why it has that strong belief, we don't know. Until recently, US diplomats relied heavily on the finding of traces of enriched uranium on certain technical components. The Iranian government countered that the contamination was there when it received the units from the Pakistanis. Last week the IAEA confirmed that fact. When uranium enrichment plants in Isfahan first got attention in english newspapers and the US made a big deal about it, the Iranians again countered that they had long before reported the issue to the IAEA. The IAEA also confirmed the fact and the issue died down. When all else fails, conservative Congressional members who have openly advocate for military confrontation point to Iran's support for Hezbollah. Interestingly, Hezbollah gained significant political presence in Lebanon after the recent election, which was pushed openly by the US administration. Ultimately there's no logic to the US's international posture via Iran. Thats probably why so many of us fear it.
