What really brought down the World Trade Center Twin Towers and Building 7 on Sept. 11, 2001?

To listen to the official government version, you would have to believe that each building's internal steel frame was compromised by thousands of gallons of burning jet fuel after each building was hit by speeding airliners. You would also have to believe that roughly 45 minutes and a little more than an hour, respectively, was enough time for the steel infrastructure of each tower to basically melt, causing each of the towers to fall into themselves, eerily reminiscent of a controlled demolition. You would also have to believe that World Trade Center 7, a building across the street from the Twin Towers, inexplicably collapsed due to "uncontrollable fires" that were allowed to burn for almost seven hours.

A segment of the American population believes the attacks of Sept. 11 were self-inflicted wounds, and they have been producing small-budget documentaries and hosting conferences and talks all over the country for several years.

Along that vein comes 9/11 Guilt: The Proof Is In Your Hands, a film claiming to prove that pre-planned controlled demolition brought down the Twin Towers and World Trade Center 7 and also aims to "indict the financiers behind the crimes of 9/11/01" - and it's not al Qaeda or international terror king pin Osama bin Laden. The film was screened in front of 18 people April 21 in the basement of Hooked on Colfax, a coffee shop on East Colfax.

The film is made up of two presentations given Aug. 22, 2005, during the second convening of the Los Angeles Citizens' Grand Jury on the Crimes of 9/11/01.

The first presentation was given by Jim Hoffman, a software engineer and research scientist. His job was to convince the crowd that controlled demolition was, in fact, what brought down the twin towers and WTC 7. During his presentation he laid out a series of reasons to prove his point. He points to a lack of a full investigation on the part of the federal government. He said steel building collapses leave broken buildings, not smoking craters. He said fires have never destroyed steel skyscrapers, and added that rather than undertake a concerted investigation the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) assembled volunteer investigators and barred them from the site.

As for direct evidence, Hoffman said blast waves blew chunks of steel 500 feet in all directions; the destruction followed the vertical axis of the building all the way down, "so it's not possibly a natural event." Another reason, according to Hoffman, is that intense heat persisted on ground zero for more than 100 days. He also said the Twin Towers collapsed through themselves as fast as their rubble fell through the air, whereas natural collapses are nothing like that.

As for indicting the "financiers" of the attacks, that job was left to author Don Paul. He implicated five very important men as the source and nucleus of the "staged" terror attacks.

Larry Silverstein of Silverstein Properties, the lease holder for WTC 7 and the Twin Towers; Peter G. Peterson, chairman of the Blackstone Group, lease holder of WTC 7 and the Twin Towers, and chair of the Council on Foreign Relations; David Rockefeller, chair of the Chase Manhattan Bank and the Lower Manhattan Development Association, and Chairman Emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations; Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush.

Paul said Cheney and Bush had less to do with it than the other three, but nonetheless were involved.

According to Paul, the developers and financiers of the World Trade Center profited hugely from "both the demolitions" - more than $3 billion was paid out in insurance claims to the lease holders - and the ensuing "invasions and occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq" led to more profits for well-connected investors and companies like Raytheon and Halliburton. He also said the invasion of Afghanistan restored opium supplies "integral to the Western world's illegal and legal economies."
