The controversy over a Church of Ireland Minister concelebrating Mass with three Catholic priests at the Augustinian Priory in Drogheda, Co Louth, is continuing.

It is believed that it is the first time since the Reformation that a Protestant clergyman has concelebrated the Easter Eucharist at a Catholic Mass.

Prayers were said in remembrance of the events of 1916 and the Western Front.

The Catholic and Church of Ireland hierarchies have expressed concern about the concelebration.

The Catholic Primate of All Ireland, Dr Sean Brady, said that in holding such a Mass there was a 'real danger of causing widespread confusion raising false hopes and creating situations that are open to misunderstandings and manipulation'.

The Church of Ireland Primate, Dr Robin Eames, said that such occasions while well-intentioned might well be misunderstood.

Fr Iggy O'Donovan, one of the Catholic priests involved in the ceremony, said that no one had contacted him formally.

[Partridge: Because there aren't a million and one things wrong with this country [where are the men of the colth on the Irish governments illegal complicity in the Afghan and Iraq wars and the use of Irish airports for torture rendition?], right?]
