Following reports of an imminent attack by Hizbullah forces in southern Lebanon, Israeli troops were deployed to the northern Israeli border on Monday morning and the highest level of alert was issued in the region.

Israeli military authorities believe that Hizbullah may be planning attacks on Israeli military installations or the possible kidnapping of Israelis.

Fearing the attack, four Israeli roads in the area were closed to traffic. This marks the first time in over one year that such a step has been taken.

Israeli military sources were also on extra alert as a result of Monday's Jewish holiday, on which previous attacks against Israeli citizens have occured.

In addition, the United Nations Security Council is set to debate Iran's controversial nuclear program on Monday, leading Israeli officials to fear that Iran, who supports Hizbullah, may attempt to divert attention from the talks by instigating an attack on Israel.

β€œIt could be to serve Iran by diverting attention from the growing international pressure,” an Israeli army official said, according to the AP.
