Bush was right on the stage along side Jimmy Carter and the Clintons when he was blasted and people cheered.

Ouch!!!!!

Why isn't anybody pissed off that they said this kind of crap at a funeral? They've got plenty of opportunities to badmouth Bush. Why during a eulogy? At least Clinton stuck to the point of Mrs. King.

According to Al Sharpton, Mrs. King made polital speeches at everyones funeral. And that since she was somewhat of a political figure, making political statements at her funeral makes sense.

The weren't making just political statements. They were making political attacks. They were taking advantage of a funeral to play the game. Sharpton tried to defend Carter's talking about the wiretapping like that he didn't bring it up just to make a snide attack at Bush. First of all, lots of shit happened to the Kings. They had bricks thron at them, they were threatened, they were arrested, their children were endangered. Dr. King himself was killed. The wiretapping was one small thing in whole big mess of obstacles they went through to help thier people. Second of all, the situation was different. The Kennedys tapped the Kings because they werre threatened by King's political movement, which unlike Malcom X's was actually making a difference. The NSA is wiretapping foreign calls to try and catch a signal sent to a sleeper cell to start attacking. It was obviously said because he wanted to attack Bush. The Clintons set the example for how they all should have behaved. Bill even made a political comment, referring to past pres., present pres., and... then gestured to his wife. That was okay. When they talked, they talked about Mrs. King and what she did, not what was done to her that they could bring up to try and connect Bush with 50's and 60's racists.

Yeah Malcolm was a real nobody wasn't he? His politcial influence was Nil. Thats why they had to kill him, for his own good - before he realised how ineffectual he was and killed himself.

It's just coincidence that Malcolm was murdered when he dropped the complete seperatist rhetoric and began working with both the revolutionary groups, like the Militant Labor Forum, and reformist groups like Dr. King's movement - and organising not only his breakaway Black Muslim group (Muslim Mosques Inc), but also a secular Black Power initiatve (The Organization of Afro-American Unity).

Likewise, it's just coincidence that Dr. King was murdered when he broadened his struggle from civil rights for black brothers and sister, to the struggle for social justice for all brothers and sisters. And began speaking out against Vietnam.

I believe there will ultimately be a clash between the oppressed and those who do the oppressing. I believe that there will be a clash between those who want freedom, justice and equality for everyone and those who want to continue the system of exploitation. I beleive there will be that kind of clash, but I don't think it will be based on the color of skin. - Malcolm X

"The NSA is wiretapping foreign calls to try and catch a signal sent to a sleeper cell to start attacking."

Do you honestly believe that? What do you think they are going to say "Hello, is that Sleeper Cell Number 15? " "Yes, it is, Allah be praised!" "Now is the time for you to strike. Allah wills it!" "Salam a Leikum".

I mean, this is like 1984, we're expected to believe to fundamentally contradictionary things about 'the enemy' and believe both of them are true -

1) They are very cunning, sly, clever, evil geniuses who can organise the co-ordinated hijackings of four airliners on a single day and smash three of them into buildings without anyone knowing a goddam thing about it (apart from several different intelligence agencies who warned the USA, and that old 'historical document' "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the US".)

2) They are really fucking stupid and opnely communicate their intentions over the phone.

And of course, all Administrations have used wiretaps and covert surviellance against domestic 'enemies'. They do today, they did in 1965 and they did in 1900 (well, not the wiretaps obviously). Whether the tapping was 'legal' or 'illegal' doesn't make much difference to me.

They have to communicate in some way. I'm amazed at how much is said as if the speaker actually know what went on in the NSA spying when a) all the info known is from the news that broke it, which indeed said that the spying was on international calls trying to get signs of terrorism, and b) everything else is classsified and unknown except to the spies themselves. Saying it was done to everyone, or that they were up to no good, is pure speculation at this point. The facts known don't point to any of that. Of course it's sensitized, of course it's what was leaked by NSA employees, but you can't just assume what isn't there. And Martin Luther King jr. was far more effective than Malcom X.
