WASHINGTON - President Bush won't be the only one making political points about 9/11 at tonight's State of the Union speech.

At least two New Yorkers invited to the address by state lawmakers will be there to illustrate their own, very different points.

"Let's see if we get some truth," said Monica Gabrielle, who lost her husband on Sept. 11, 2001, and will listen to Bush with Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

Bush, who has made his response to the Sept. 11 terror attacks a cornerstone of his administration, has featured New Yorkers prominently in the address every year since.

Gabrielle said she wants to hear Bush before she takes a stand on his speech.

Clinton's spokesman said the senator invited Gabrielle to recognize her push for security improvements and for more information about the attacks - but also to remind the President of challenges that still face New York.

Marvin Bethea, a paramedic sickened by his 9/11 exposure who is coming with Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan), has a message for Bush and the rest of the federal government.

"I want every member of Congress to look at me and remember me when they go to bed at night," said Bethea, who takes 14 medications and has formed a foundation to help other 9/11 responders who have lost or had to fight for health care.

Maloney sent Bush a letter yesterday asking him to appoint a health czar to make sure people like Bethea don't slip through the cracks.

When President George W. Bush gives his State of the Union speech tonight, the Long Island wife of a 9/11 victim who has been critical of the president will be in the audience.

Monica Gabrielle, co-chairwoman of the Skyscraper Safety Campaign, a citizens' group that has pressured Congress to investigate the U.S. government's handling of the terror attack and take measures to prevent future attacks, will be the guest of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y).

Gabrielle said Bush has not held federal agencies accountable for allowing the attack to happen, and has not done enough to ensure that another attack does not happen.

"I'm all about letting the truth out," said Gabrielle, of Baiting Hollow. "That's the only way we're going to be able to fix the lapses that allowed 9/11 to happen and the deaths of so many."

She said the 9/11 Commission, which in December gave mostly failing grades to the nation's anti-terror measures, should have gone farther in assigning blame.

"Until you're willing to hold people accountable and fix the problem, it's going to happen again, just as it did with Hurricane Katrina," said Gabrielle, 54.

Her husband, Richard Gabrielle, was an insurance broker working at the World Trade Center when the Twin Towers collapsed, killing 2,749 people.

After his death, Gabrielle joined the relatives of other victims in pressing for the formation of the 9/11 Commission.

She also was among victims' relatives who criticized Bush for refusing to testify before the commission, then using images from Ground Zero in campaign commercials during the 2004 campaign.

Bush, who will deliver his fifth State of the Union address, is expected to make his administration's handling of terrorism a key part of his speech.

Gabrielle said that despite her misgivings about the Bush administration, she's honored that Clinton invited her to attend.

"It's a historic event and not everyone gets to go," Gabrielle said. "So I'm excited."

She's obviously pushing the official line, but it's still somewhat good to see that the health effects from 9/11 are starting to make the spotlight.

Bush-Bashing 9/11 Widow is Hillary Clinton's SOTU Guest

Bush-bashing 9/11 widow Monica Gabrielle will be Sen. Hillary Clinton's special guest tonight during President Bush's State of the Union address.

Mrs. Clinton's spokesman told the New York Daily News that the senator invited Gabrielle to recognize her push for security improvements and for more information about the attacks - but also to remind Bush of challenges that still face New York.

But others see the invite as a way of sticking it to the president, who frequently alludes to the 9/11 attacks during is annual address to the nation.

"Let's see if we get some truth," a hostile-sounding Gabrielle told the News.

In the past, the 9/11 widow has accused Bush of exploiting the attacks for political purposes, calling the move "despicable."

"You know, this happened on his watch," she complained in 2003. "If he wants to show a picture of 9/11 depicting what he was doing [during the attacks], it should be a picture of him sitting and reading in a classroom to school children. That's where he was on 9/11."

Gabrielle told the News that she wants to listen to Bush's speech tonight before she makes any further comment.

Could you imagine... Monica fooled Clinton into making her think she would follow the official line, only to come out with complete 9/11 Truth? She would be my hero.

Now that would be quite a moment.
