The ACLU challenged in court the NYC subway random searches. A judge struck down the challenge, The Jersey Journal weighs in on the side of the judge in an editorial, "Common sense prevails" (Dec. 10).

There are two issues here: 1) is there a threat?; 2) do the searches address it? The threat is presumed because of 9-11 and the London bombings. The searches were not instituted before that.

Many now know the reasons given for the invasion of Iraq were a pack of lies. What most are not yet ready to face is that the "official story" of 9-11 is part of that same pack of lies and that 9-11 was perpetrated by our own government, or circles high within it, to create a pretext for invading Iraq. The Iraq war was on the drawing board in January 2001, according to Clarke, O'Neill, and others. It could go forward neither until nor without Sept. 11.

The physics of the collapse of the WTC towers is completely impossible other than through controlled demolition. A guy by the name of Jimmy Walters is offering a million dollars to the first person to show how it could have happened otherwise - a Nobel Prize with no takers so far.

Soon after 9/11 and an anthrax attack that targeted senators and journalists, Congress passed, unread, the Patriot Act, a significant attack on the Bill of Rights. The Act was huge and had to have been prepared well before 9-11. Our own government is systematically destroying our liberties and pursuing a "strategy of tension." The crimes committed overseas, the torture, the invasions, the spying, the renditions, are now coming home and are beginning to be visited upon our own people.

As for 2), would the searches stop real terrorist threats? Obviously not any more than would the military people walking around with M-16s. That's not what they are for. The intent is to create fear and to soften us up for worse to come.

Welcome to the wonderful world of police state. It's gonna get worse. I think I am moving to Canada.
