Caracas, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela has defended Wednesday its right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful ends and criticized the hypocritical position of some wealthy countries that impede access to that technology for the rest of nations.

Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel told Venezolana de Television that his government was free to develop that source of energy, since oil was a non-renewable almost used up resource.

"That is why we are exploring alternatives such as wind, sun and nuclear energy," commentated Rangel while pointed out the latter did not necessary lead to construction of weapons of massive destruction.

"There are several peaceful ends for using the nuclear energy to help countries with fewer resources," he said.

"Declarations of US Reverend Pat Robertson on supposed Caracas plans to launch a nuclear bomb against the US are part of a campaign against the Venezuelan government," he asserted.

The ostensibly god-worshipping man called for President Hugo Chavez´s assassination on a TV program while emphasizing it was cheaper that starting an invasion.

Venezuela´s vice president denied existence of an agreement or treaty with Argentina to buy a nuclear reactor and said they were just exploring possibilities.

"Despite the fact that Venezuela is an oil producing country, we could not rule out another formula from an energy point of view," Rangel added.
