Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela's vice president denied charges by Christian television evangelist Pat Robertson that the South American country is seeking nuclear material from Iran and supporting terrorist Osama bin Laden.

Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel said in a televised press conference that Robertson, who earlier called for the assassination of President Hugo Chavez, continues to make unfounded allegations. Robertson called for Chavez' assassination in August, sparking criticism that led him to apologize.

"This guy is crazy," Rangel said. "He should be submitted to a team of psychiatrists and psychologists."

Robertson, who made his remarks in an interview that appeared on CNN's "Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer," said that the U.S. one day might be facing the threat of nuclear weapons from Venezuela.

Rangel called on the White House to rebuke Robertson, whom he called "the spiritual advisor" to President George W. Bush.

"It's curious that the White House doesn't say anything," Rangel said.
