The venerable and Right Honorable member of YBBS Parliament for Ireland East - known and loved by you as Partridge - presents the 'Democracy School'.

I came across this on the wonderful Unwelcome Guests (http://www.radio4all.org/unwelcome/) radio show. First a few words about Unwelcome Guests. I listen to this almost religiously every week - ever since I discovered it about a year ago on the A-Infos Radio Project (http://www.radio4all.net/) where the archives are hosted. The show is presented by Lyn Garry, and calls itself a "program about wealth, power, and peoples' resistance". Over the years it has featured speakers like Michael Parenti (http://www.michaelparenti.org/) (whose speeches are what got me listening in the first place), Stan Goff (http://stangoff.com/), Mike Ruppert (http://www.fromthewilderness.com/), Doug Dowd (http://www.dougdowd.org/), Ward Churchill (http://www.zmag.org/bios/homepage.cfm?authorID=62), Ralph Schoenman (http://www.takingaim.info/) and a whole bunch of others taht I'd probably have never heard about.

Over the last month it has been featuring something called the Democracy School (http://www.celdf.org/cdp/DPDSchool/default.asp). A series of speeches and Q&As about democracy in the USA - or rather, the lack thereof. At first, based on the name, I thought it would be wanky liberal moaning about how 'Republicans are evil waaaauuuggghhhh' - but I was pleasantly surprised.

The theme of the school is environmentally orientated - but it takes in everything from the economic basis of the US Constituion, to the evolution of Corporations into 'persons' (and all the Constitutional rights that guarantees for them), and to how the laws written ostensibly to regulate enviromental destruction are simply traps for enviornmentalists and community groups.

As far as I'm concerned, this is MUST LISTEN. Even though, I think in total there is over five hours of material.

Unwelcome Guests: #270 - Beyond the Democracy Theme Park

Unwelcome Guests: #271 - We Are All Refugees - Democracy School

Unwelcome Guests: #272 - Who Wields the Constitution Against Whom? (http://www.radio4all.net/index.php?op=program-info&program_id=14131&nav=&)

Also definitely worth your time browsing through the archives of the show (http://www.radio4all.net/index.php?op=result&action=series&series=Unwelcome%20Guests&nav=&)

And if I may, I would recommend the recent lecture series by radical economist Doug Dowd (9 hour long shows in total) - it's called "America: Where We Have Arrived, Where We Are Headed (http://www.radio4all.net/index.php?op=search&nav=&session=&searchtext=doug+dowd&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&submit=submit)'
