COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday he will contemplate next year whether to run for president in 2008.

"I will be considering it next year," Giuliani said during a visit to Denmark. But he added that playing with the idea of running for the Republican nomination for president did not mean he would actually do it.

"Sometime you warm up and get ready and you don't get in and pitch," he told reporters, in a baseball analogy.

Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised $8,400 in support for their New York colleagues.

"To us it was the only thing we could do, raise money and show our support," firefighter Jens Hjorth said.

Eight firefighters from the station raised the money by recording a CD with six songs called "The Skyline Changed." They sold 27,000 copies.

On Sunday, the band members handed over a copy of the CD to Giuliani, who in return gave them a New York Fire Department hat.

Giuliani was in Denmark to speak at a business leadership conference in the Danish capital on Monday.

In 2000, Giuliani ran for the U.S. Senate, but dropped out after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

"Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised $8,400 in support for their New York colleagues."

That has to be one of the most self contradicting lines I've ever read. If Big G's leadership was so fantabulous, why in the name of god do firemen from a country thousands of miles away have to raise money to help their New Yorkian brothers (in the richest city, of the richest country in the world)? That fact alone is staggering, no? How can anyone praise the leadership of a man who, it seems, can't even meet the basic needs of the actual heroes of that terrible day?

(This is not to denigrate efforts the Danish brothers, who should be applauded for their international solidarity.)

And anyway - what exactly, aside from apparently failing to support the firemen to the point where they are relying on donations, was this great leadership of his? Even taking the best scenario of 9-11 (or, the 'official fiction') - his leadership amounted to:

1) Shipping the evidence from a federal crime off to Asia

2) Failing to clean up/warn citizens about the air pollution in lower manhattan (at least according to Indira Singh)

3) Raising or lowering the NY terror alert every now and then

4) Not much else. Unless you believe somehow, that the fact there were no follow up attacks in NYC was all due to Rudi's leadership skills. "Well, we were gonna set off some bombs in the subway, but then we saw Rudi on the TV and he was just such a great leader that we didn't dare go through with it, in case he, errr, attacked us.. with... his great leadership skills, which are praised second only to Allah."

Gadzooks! He surely is fine Presidential material!
