I just heard on the Laura Flanders show (Air America) that there's a letter circulating around the internet from Governor Kathleen Blanco to President Bush "pleading" for help days before the Hurricane even took place. I haven't had any luck finding it. Any help would be appreciated.

Anybody hear this rumor?

Supposedly, when His Majesty was flying over New Orleans to assess damage, all rescue helicopters and other flying aircraft carrying supplies were delayed to avoid Air Force One's airspace....

A caller brought it up on C-Span today. Don't know if it's true or not. Sounds plausible....

i remember hearing the governor or mayor ask for him not to come. just send help. probably because he knew delays would happen.

Hey... everything's good...

I remember seeing someone critique his "fly over", but I don't remember why.

According to here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Katrina), it happened on the 29th, which is a day before the letter.

"A Preliminary Damage Assessment will be conducted as soon as possible after the landfall of Hurricane Katrina. Based on the predictions we have received from the National Weather Service and other sources, I have determined that this incident will be of such severity and magnitude that effective response will be beyond the capabilities of the State and the affected local governments and that supplementary Federal assistance will be necessary."

Ok... does anyone know if the President authorized any of these requests?

I just sent this to www.rawstory.com (http://www.rawstory.com). Hopefully they'll know the response better than me.
