British doctors gear up for bird flu pandemic
But distribution of information packs is no cause for alarm, officials say

Updated: 12:52 p.m. ET Aug. 19, 2005

LONDON - Doctors offices and clinics across Britain will receive instructions next month to prepare for a feared pandemic of bird flu amid concerns the deadly disease could spread across Europe.

Information packs will include a 50-page technical guide to help doctors identify cases of bird flu and guidelines on containing an outbreak of the virus that has killed more than 50 people in southeast Asia since 2003.

The packs, which will also contain leaflets for the public, form part of the government’s planned response to a potential flu pandemic as agreed with the World Health Organization.

“The timing of the distribution reflects the production cycle and does not signify a heightened state of alert,” said the Department of Health in a statement on Friday.

The department said there had been no cases of human-to-human transmission of bird flu, which would signal the start of a pandemic.

'Expanding geographical presence'
But health authorities fear the virus could spread to Europe following mass bird deaths in a Russian region to the west of the Ural mountains this week and as tens of millions of birds continue to migrate to warmer climates in coming months.

The WHO on Thursday called for tight checks in Russia and Kazakhstan to detect any further bird flu outbreaks among poultry.

The U.N. agency expressed concern about the “expanding geographical presence” of the deadly H5N1 virus beyond southeast Asia, but said that no human cases had been detected in either former Soviet republic.

The Dutch agriculture ministry on Friday ordered all poultry to be kept indoors from Monday to prevent contact with migrating birds that could spread the disease from Russia.

How much are you willing to bet the US is doing absolutely nothing to prepare for a possible pandemic?

There were reports in Mexico about the bird flu. We should be.

It's like when we ran out of regular flu vaccine of year, I believe, because the drug companies in the US don't make it because there is not enough profit in it.

msnbc as the source again...be careful with them, nbc=ge=war machine=bush corp. sponsor

That's not to say they don't have factual reports, but when they go for the panic button, I wonder if bubble boy's buddies at GE send the memes downstairs to the corp. lapdogs.(remember, they're dying for stories these days-you can only report infotainment so much)

If there was a pandemic, wouldn't big pharma be trumping this as a moment to cash in on the US medical industrial complex? Quick buy this.

When we were told our "financial institutions" were a target during the election, they said..."but keep shopping".

Now they are saying, "bird flu"..."but don't panic"...and please keep shopping.

I'm not looking for a debate on the reality of it, it just seems that these constant, external, imminent threats keep popping up. With all the other lies coming from the corp. news...the death, destruction in Iraq, and gas prices...what's more important to you now? Iraq(where soldiers are dying and Cindy Sheehan waits) or the constant, imminent, external threat?

Consider this:

'Bird Flu', SARS - Biowarfare or a Pandemic of Propaganda?

MindWar: Full Spectrum Fake Terrorism

"In its strategic context, MindWar must reach out to friends, enemies, and neutrals alike across the globe-neither through primitive "battlefield" leaflets and loudspeakers of PSYOP nor through the weak, imprecise, and narrow effort of psychotronics [the relationship between matter, energy, and consciousness] "but through the media possessed by the United States which have the capabilities to reach virtually all people on the face of the Earth." -Col. Paul E. Vallely, the Commander of the 7th Psychological Operations Group, United States Army Reserve

In short, the corporate media, Vallely wrote 25 years ago, is an integral and essential component and "force multiplier" of forever war waged against enemies, including the American people.

Regarding MSNBC... they have a few honest writers, sometimes. Also, we need to rely on alternative media for the truth, but save their words to use against them later.
