(Gold9472: Somebody find out who Qazi Hussain Ahmad is!!!)

LAHORE: The events of 9/11 were designed to crush Muslims all over the world, said Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) president and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer, on Saturday.

After the fall of Communism, the US made Muslims its prime target and the NATO secretary general declared that after Communism, Islamic fundamentalism was the biggest danger to the world, Qazi said while addressing the annual certificate distribution ceremony of Syed Maududi International Institute of Islamic Education.

Qazi said the Pakistani government was working as an “agent” of the US and NATO, who have established military bases in Afghanistan near Pakistani borders. He said that General Pervez Musharraf is working as an American ally against Islamic movements and is also a friend of India. He condemned Musharraf for saying that Israeli premier Ariel Sharon was a brave general and soldier.

The MMA accused Gen Musharraf of provoking people against religious forces and asking them not to vote for religious parties because they are extremists, which was a violation of the constitution. He said that Musharraf was an opponent of Muslim unity and was dividing the Muslims.

Qazi said that the military and bureaucracy had been trying to eliminate Islamic leaders since independence. He said that the honour and independence of ulema would be protected.

He said sectarianism was not only a religious division, but a geographical division as well. He said that the institute had been successful in making students, from different cultures and speaking different languages, live and study together under an Islamic environment.

Earlier, Col (r) Umar Farooq Ghazi, principal of the institute, delivered a welcome address and said that one hundred students from ten countries study at the institution. Chaudhry Rehmat Ilahi, Islamic Education Society chairman and JI naib ameer and Abdul Ghaffar Aziz, chairman of the institute, were also present.

Pakistan today is undergoing an Islamic renaissance. The man responsible for this is no other than Qazi Hussain Ahmed. A man of letters, Qazi Sahib is fully aware of the politico-economic and human geography of the world.

He is a compelling author, an eloquent speaker, a visionary and a man thoroughly equipped with the knowledge of both the sacred and mundane. His love for poetry particularly of Iqbal makes him a unique leader among the religious and political circles. Apart from thorough command over Pushto, Urdu and English he has considerable proficiency in, Arabic and Persian.

Being a family man Qazi Sahib has four children and treats his children and wife with dignity, love and affection.

A Brief Life Sketch:
Qazi Sahib was born in 1938 in the house of a great religious luminary Maulana Qazi Muhammad Abdul Rab at Ziarat Kaka Sahib, Distt. Nowshera, NWFP, Pakistan. A teacher by profession, Maulana Sahib excelled in religious knowledge and political influence to the extent that he was appointed as the President of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind for NWFP. Qazi Hussain Ahmed was the youngest among his ten children.

After having completed early education at home, Qazi Hussain Ahmad was admitted to Islamia College, Peshawar and got his Masters of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Geography from Peshawar University. He served as lecturer for three years, teaching at the graduate level. Owing to his inclination towards the activities of Jamaat, he did not continue in teaching profession. After that he started his own business. He marked his presence in this field and was elected as Vice President, NWFP (Provincial) Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Political Career:
His affiliation with the Islamic Movement started in his school days when he joined Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, Pakistan. He became member of Jamaat-e-Islami in 1970 and was elected to the office of President of its Peshawar branch. He served Jamaat-e-Islami as Secretary and then Ameer of NWFP province. He was raised to the office of Secretary General, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan in 1978 and after elected as Ameer (Chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan in 1987, continues to serve in that capacity, getting re-elected thrice (1992, 1994, 1999).

Qazi Hussain Ahmad was first elected as member of the Senate of Pakistan in 1986 for a term of six years. He was re-elected as such in March 1992, but he resigned as a Senator in 1996 as a protest against the corrupt political system.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad has widely traveled abroad to represent Jamaat at the international forums, leading goodwill missions as well as in his personal capacity to mediate in issues concerning Muslim Ummah. His services during Iran-Iraq and the Gulf War, the Bulkan (Bosnia) crisis and the post-Soviet power struggle in Afghanistan, have been widely commended and appreciated. Even before the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed was in close contact with Afghan mujahideen and had personal terms with top Afghan leaders. He played pivotal role in introducing Afghan jehad to foreign world and gaining countrywide favour for the movement.

Within the country, Qazi Hussain Ahmad remains continuously in movement undertaking ceaseless campaign of mass awareness, mobilization and party organization. His patronage of organizations like Pasban and subsequently the formation of Shabab-e-Milli is an open expression of his deep concern for the poor and the oppressed.

He was Secretary General of the Muttahida Shariat Mahaz (1986).

In 1997 Qazi Sahib launched a nationwide campaign to expand the party membership. His open membership campaign brought 4.5 million new members to the Jamaat.

For the sake of religion and the people of this country Qazi Sahib has undergone several rounds of captivity. His recent captivity ensued the September 11 attacks. While Qazi Sahib condemned categorically the 9-11 attacks, he was opposed to the letting a drunken power trample the poor people of Afghanistan under feet. He voiced his concerns publicly and therefore was detained by the insecure regime in Islamabad to placate the US government.

Qazi Sahib is a firm believer in the unity of Muslim Ummah, and has strived to unite the Muslims of this country. Thanks to his restless efforts all major religious parties of the country have united under the banner of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).

Qazi Hussain Ahmad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad is the president of the Pakistani ultra-conservative Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami. He also leads the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal or [[MMA].

He was born in 1938 in Nowshera, NWFP. He earned an M.Sc. in Geography from the Peshawar University. After a brief stunt in teaching and business he joined the Jamaat-e-Islami in 1970 and became its chief in 1987. Since then his religious party has been accused of sheltering people alleged of carrying out terrorist acts.

(Gold9472: So does the Jewish Defense League)

His philosophies focus primarily on helping poor and opressed muslims around the world. In recent years, though, he has become one of the faces of anti-Americanism in Pakistani politics. His party argues that the FBI and American military have no right to search for Al-Qaeda members on Pakistani soil.

Mr Hussain is accused by his critics for being a bigot and a hypocrit-- Critics argue that he is always talking against the Western world, but yet his children were educated there and are living there as well. Two of his daughters got elected in the Pakistani parliament on the special reserved seats for women. Unlike the founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami he is neither a reputed scholar nor an author but has written articles and compilations.
