DOVER, Del. (AP) — Federal prosecutors in Delaware are seeking to dismiss an indictment obtained almost 10 years ago against a Saudi native who was investigated following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Papers seeking to dismiss the indictment against former Newark resident Ahmad Al-Ghamdi were filed Thursday in federal court in Wilmington. Prosecutors gave no reason in the court filing for dismissing the indictment and did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

Al-Ghamdi, then 28, was charged in absentia in 2002 with trying to buy a firearm using a false identity. He was accused of trying to buy a semiautomatic pistol from Miller's Gun Center in New Castle in June 2001 using the name of a Philadelphia resident. That man later reported that his identification cards had been stolen during a robbery years earlier.
