STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A poll indicates that one in five Swedes under 30 believe the U.S. government had a role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The poll, performed by Novus Opinion for the Swedish television program "Kalla Fakta," found that a significant number of young Swedes buy the conspiracy theories of the Truth Movement, also known as "September 11th research community," the Swedish news agency TT reported Sunday.

TT said the group espouses the idea that the terror network al-Qaida was not behind the Sept. 11 attacks, but they were actually planned by the administration of former President George W. Bush to justify a war on terror.

The survey, which queried 1,000 Swedes over the Internet panel, found that 70 percent believed al-Qaida was behind the attacks, while 7 percent did not think so. But among those under 30, only 58 percent believed the Islamic militants were responsible, while 15 percent did not, and 18 percent believed the U.S. government had a role in the attacks, TT said.

The report gave no details on when the poll was taken or its margin of error.
