The bloody violence tied to the drug war in Mexico continues to creep closer and closer to the U.S. border.

Earlier this week, three decapitated bodies were discovered near the U.S. border fence in the western Playas de Tijuana neighborhood. Among the victims was a former American with a drug history.

According to authorities, Jorge Natividad Norman Harrison, 38, had conspiracy and drug trafficking charges in the United States. Harrison, who was captured at the U.S. border, eventually relocated to Tijuana.

The other two victims discovered with Harrison were Luis Horacio Garcia Aispuro, 39, a native of Sinaloa state with a criminal past in the state of Sonora; and Jaime Ramos Herrera, from the state of Colima.

These three deaths are just the latest in a string of violent deaths in and around Tijuana, which are tied to the cartel drug wars.

To make clear how big a problem this is, there have been more violent deaths in Tijuana this year to date than in Baghdad.

Last year, nearly 6,000 people were killed nationwide as Mexican drug gangs battled each other and President Felipe Calderon's government.

Since the start of this year, dozens of people have been gunned down in Tijuana, including a number of police officers. The nationwide body count is reportedly already more than 400.

With violence so close to and sometimes spilling over the border into the U.S., it would be nice to see the Obama Administration devote some major attention to this issue.

The chances of another 9/11 plot being hatched against the U.S., but this time from south of our border, is not as far-fetched as some may think.

With the Mexican economy struggling and the drug war raging on, desperation could very easily set in around Mexico for its citizens if it has not already.
