A Suggestion For Senator Patrick Leahy

Jon Gold
3/1/2009

I don't know whether or not I agree with a "Truth & Reconciliation Commission." I don't like Nancy Pelosi, but I agree with her when she says that if there are "criminal ramifications (http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/02/25/pelosi/)," people should be charged, and should not be given immunity. Jonathan Turley said that it is a "shameful (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Turley_pleads_for_prosecution_of_Bush_0211.html)" way to avoid prosecuting war crimes.

Senator Leahy's "Truth Commission" seems to focus primarily on torture (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Senate_to_announce_investigation_of_torture_0225.h tml), but there is a possibility (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Leahy_argues_for_middle_ground_with_0225.html) that more may be looked into. The basic premise seems to be though, that if it is a crime to be investigated, it will be a crime that took place Post-9/11.

Senator Leahy is against re-investigating 9/11. The enabling event for all of the crimes that took place afterwards. Even though he has questions like "why did 9/11 happen on George Bush's watch when he had clear warnings that it was going to happen? Why did they allow it to happen?" he has made it quite clear (http://www.yourbbsucks.com/forum/showpost.php?p=89085&postcount=1) that he is not willing to re-investigate it. If Jonathan Turley wants to talk about things that are "shameful," I think I could give him a run for his money.

That being said, I wonder if Patrick Leahy would at least be willing to investigate 9/11 whistleblower Sibel Edmonds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojig6MeN0go). He did, after all, support her (http://www.justacitizen.com/articles_documents/Leahy_Grassley_Letter_to_Fine_6-19-02.pdf) along with Chuck Grassley (http://www.justacitizen.com/articles_documents/Leahy_Grassley_Letter_to_Ashcroft_7-9-04.pdf) in the past. Maybe he would be willing to do so again. After all, her issue has NOT been resolved.

It's the LEAST he could do (a look at the anthrax attacks (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Anthrax_spores_dont_match_dead_researchers_0226.ht ml) couldn't hurt either).
