ISLAMABAD: Any action inside Pakistani territory by US or NATO forces would be unacceptable and considered an attack on Pakistan, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sher Afgan Niazi said while opening a debate in the National Assembly on Pakistan’s foreign policy with special focus on Pak-US relations here on Monday.

“We will not accept any violation of the borders and will consider it an attack and retaliate. No sovereign country can bear the violation of its borders,” said Niazi. He said that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestation and was a frontline ally in the war against terrorism. “The US, being an ally, should believe in assurances given by the president and prime minister that Osama Bin Laden and Mulla Omar are not in Pakistan,” he said.

Niazi said that the US wanted to shift the blame of its failure in Afghanistan and Iraq on Pakistan, which was not justified. He said the recent threatening statements of US administration officials and presidential candidates were political motivated. “These remarks will not help them get votes ... they will only harm Pakistan-US relations,” he added.

Opposition leader in the NA Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the government had agreed to discuss foreign policy in the house too late as the results of its “failed policy” had already hurt Pakistan. He said the recent US statements were the result of Pakistan’s failed foreign policy and General Pervez Musharraf’s “unconditional subjugation” to US demands after the 9/11 incident. “Musharraf blindly accepted US demands and put the country into a new crisis,” he said.
