A PEACE campaigner says the recent visit to Grange by an American who was the last to escape from the 9/11 Twin Towers attack in New York proved a success.

Penny Pullen, from Kirkhead Road, helped arrange the visit to Grange to address a public meeting by twin towers hero William Rodriguez.

The visit of the American janitor, who believes there was a conspiracy involving the US government in the 9/11 attacks, hit controversy when he was banned from a Grange hotel.

Mr Rodriguez was told he was not welcome at the Graythwaite Manor Hotel because of his “political views”.

But the talk, at the Victoria Hall, Grange as part of a European lecture tour, went ahead.

Mr Rodriguez’s lecture was organised by Cumbria 9/11 Truth and Peace Group and Mrs Pullen said: “The atmosphere in the Victoria Hall was brilliant and everyone enjoyed live music before William’s presentation.

“People turned out on a very wet night from Barrow, Ulverston, Lancaster, Preston, Blackpool, Poulton-le-Fylde, Windermere and Kirkby Lonsdale, as well as a very impressive number from Grange and nearby villages.

“It was pleasing to see Robert Leech (mayor of Grange) among the audience.

“For anyone who wasn’t able to attend, it is important to state that William’s main message is that he is working tirelessly on behalf of the 9/11 victims’ families, as he and they have been campaigning for a full independent enquiry for nearly six years, and which to date has been denied them by the US government.

“On the strength of the resounding success of the evening, the Cumbria 9/11 Truth and Peace Group are negotiating venues to hold free film shows on a monthly basis in Grange.”
