WASHINGTON, June 1 (UPI) -- Relatives of firefighters and others killed in the Sept. 11 attacks have been questioning the record of GOP presidential contender Rudolph Giuliani.

The relatives, organized in a group called "9/11 Firefighters and Families for Truth," have been shadowing the former New York mayor at fundraising events he has been holding in the city this week.

"How do you sleep at night?" one young woman asked him, in a video posted Tuesday by WNBC News in New York.

The group's criticism centers on what it says is Giuliani's failure to fix problems in first responder communication and command and control that were identified following the 1993 World Trade Center bombing -- like ensuring firefighter and police radios could talk to each other. In the absence of a fix, after the 2001 attacks firefighters did not get warnings about the collapse of the buildings and dozens perished needlessly.

"Rudy didn't prepare New York City after 1993 -- how can we trust him to prepare America for the future?" said a statement from group spokeswoman Sally Regenhard, whose son, a probationary firefighter, was killed at Ground Zero.

The group also says he "rushed the clean-up at Ground Zero" putting the health of rescue workers at the site and nearby residents in jeopardy.

Last week, the New York City medical examiner added Felicia Dunn-Jones, a 42-year-old attorney, to the official list of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks after she died of a rare lung disease he ruled she contracted as a result of her exposure to toxic dust from Ground Zero.

No one at Giuliani's campaign responded to an e-mail request for comment.
