RENO, Nev. (AP) - A group of anti-war protesters gathered Saturday in Reno to demand that Congress pursue the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, saying the two must be held accountable for their actions regarding the war in Iraq.

About 50 activists waved placards and heard speeches during the two-hour rally outside the federal courthouse. The protest followed Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich's introduction Tuesday of articles of impeachment against Cheney.

Organizer Rich Haber of the pro-impeachment group A28 said it was among more than 100 such "impeachment actions" held nationwide Saturday.

He urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to reconsider her opposition to impeachment, and accused Cheney and Bush of manipulating the intelligence process to drum up support for the invasion of Iraq.

"I would make it clear (to Pelosi) that our country was severely wounded by the events of 9-11, and the only way we're going to heal is to bring justice to members of the Bush administration who have capitalized on the fear," Haber said.

Marie Bravo of the women-iniated peace group Codepink acknowledged the move to impeach Cheney and Bush is facing an uphill battle, but said all major social movements have started with a small number of citizens.

"Our main message is we must hold our elected officials accountable for atrocities and high crimes, and the only one to do it is Congress," said Bravo, a Markleeville, Calif., artist. "Congress won't do it unless we move them do do it. We want Cheney first and then Bush."

Other rally sponsors included the groups Impeach 07, and the World Can't Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!
