More than 50 speakers and 30 films are planned for this weekend's gathering in Chandler of people who believe various conspiracy theories about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"For people who may just have a question about 9/11 or have a gut feeling that something is not really right, I would encourage them strongly to attend this conference," said Jim Marrs, a Texas journalist and author who is one of the speakers.

"They will learn from people who have devoted much time out of their lives to study the issues and who can provide some hard and startling information," he said.

The conference, "9/11 Accountability Strategies & Solutions," runs today through Sunday at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort in downtown Chandler.

The conference is a project of 911 Truth of Arizona, one of about 35 state organizations in the country.

"We've had conferences, and they've all been about more and more evidence," organizer Kent Knudson said. "We have so much evidence that it's totally overwhelming that 9/11 was some kind of an inside job, and we demand a new investigation.

"Another conference about evidence is pointless. We want to have a conference about accountability, about legal and political strategies. We're going to plow new ground."

Knudson hopes up to 1,000 people from around the country will attend.

Speakers include Darrell Anderson, an Army veteran who served in Iraq; Kevin Barrett, an associate lecturer in Islamic and Arabic studies at the University of Wisconsin in Madison; Phil Berg, a lawyer who investigated voting irregularities in Florida in 2000; Jack Blood, a radio talk-show host and newsletter publisher; Col. Robert Bowman, a decorated fighter pilot in Vietnam and specialist in national security; and Steven E. Jones, a retired physics professor at Brigham Young University.

Also speaking will be Peter Phillips, a professor of sociology at Sonoma State University in California and director of Project Censored.

Marrs, who has written about the Kennedy assassination and other topics, said there are problems with the official story of Sept. 11.

"No one has offered up any proof of who these hijackers actually were," he said. "According to the European media, half (of the alleged hijackers) are still alive in the Middle East, meaning their identities were stolen."

Another question, Marrs said, is that if a terrorist group is trying to infiltrate the U.S. and slip in weapons of mass destruction, why have the borders not been secured?

"When you study the facts of 9/11 and place it into a context of everything that was going on, it becomes very clear the attacks of 9/11 were an inside job."

Darlene Heavlin, manager of the San Marcos, said the hotel landed the conference through the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau.

"All hotels in the Phoenix area bid for it," she said.

Hey Gold! So how was it? I watched the scholars panel and keynote (meria heller) over at 911blogger. The keynote was great the scholars panel pretty much blew ( I thought). To see Fetzer and Jones (mostly Fetzer)bitching back and forth was really unsettling. Even if Fetzer is right the way he presents himself is not helping his arguement. I really need to start going to these things.

I'm putting my movie together, and am also doing a write up. The scholars panel you spoke of was extremely important...

Both men were allowed the opportunity to present their case. It was blatantly obvious from Prof. Jones that the "Exotic Weaponry/Space Beam" hypothesis is bunk. One of the things Prof. Jones spoke of that really stuck with me was "More Data." For instance, one of the photos Judy Woods uses and Jim Fetzer used during his presentation showed what appears to be a funnel of smoke above the collapsing tower. That has been used again and again to argue for space beams. However, there is another photo that shows what was really happening. More Data... I hope people realize from this that you must look at all of the evidence in regards to any aspect of 9/11. Don't jump to conclusions without really digging deep, and looking at all of the information.

Perhaps the point of the Scholars panel flew over my head. Was it's purpose to present soley Fetzer's and Jones' quarrels. Certainly there was some very useful information that came out of it, I am not saying there wasn't. I never payed much attention to the space beam hypothesis but I listened to Fetzer...then Jones and Jones had a more convincing presentation. Fetzer just comes off as an asshole, even before all this I thought this. For instance at the CSPAN panel (chicago I think) he looked like a complete schmuck.

Whats the point. Fetzer says that though there probably was thermite used it does not give a full explanation. If Jones can prove definitively thermite was used at all, even it does not explain total collapse and pulverazation, it does prove the official theory wrong.

The funnel picture from Jones was certainly a good investigative find.

There was also a video that Jones showed (from Japan I think) of what looked to be like another view of the molten steel pouring out of one of the towers. I would like to get a link to that if you have it.

It was pretty funny when Fetzer said that he does not say a 'space beam' hit the building but a directed energy weapon, then later Jones gets up to answer a question and is about to say space beam but stumbles to try and remember whatever it was that Fetzer wishes it to be called.
