November 6, 2006 -- BREAKING. WMR has learned this afternoon that the GOP and the George Allen campaign are conducting a massive statewide voter suppression operation throughout Virginia. We are pursuing the story and will have additional information as we begin our more than daily election coverage through the reporting of election returns tomorrow night.

Phone call-based voter suppression of Democrats occurring throughout Virginia today and tonight.

We have learned that GOP robo-callers are phoning Virginia voters who changed their voter registration from other states during at least the past five years. Registered legal Virginia voters are being told that if they attempt to vote tomorrow they will be prosecuted. WMR will post details of one such case tonight as part of the beginning of our election coverage.

Meanwhile, WMR has obtained an email being sent by Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman that states the GOP has marshaled 7 million Republican voters in a get out the vote drive. Mehlman is also citing ABC News, Gallup, and Pew results that show a slight increase in the GOP's edge among conservatives, thus indicating some sort of major "momentum" for the Republicans. What Mehlman is not reporting is the large swing by independents to the Democratic fold. What is alarming is the fact that Mehlman, Karl Rove, and the GOP operatives are attempting to lay the groundwork for a "surge" in votes that may result from voter suppression and fraud such as that now being witnessed in Virginia.
