http://www.nydems.org/html/electedofficials/images/CongresswomanLouse.jpgThe Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, New York Democratic Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter, called on ABC to run disclaimers during its upcoming two-night broadcast of the docudrama The Path to 9/11, which many liberal bloggers have preemptively criticized for inaccurately blaming President Clinton and praising President Bush for "everything related" to the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

"ABC has a responsibility to make clear that this film is not a documentary, and does not represent an official account of the facts surrounding the September 11th attacks," Rep. Slaughter said in a statement released earlier today on her House member website (http://www.louise.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=679&Itemid=).

"Disclaimers noting that The Path to 9/11 is a docudrama should be shown throughout its airing," Slaughter continued. "We have yet to establish the impartiality and accuracy of the people behind this film and the claims it advances, and the American people need to know that."

Earlier today, The Daily Variety (http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/abc%20to%20air%20911%20miniseries%20sans%20ads_100 7338) reported that ABC would be airing the miniseries without advertisements.

"We spent $30 million on this and we're putting it on without commercials," explained ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson. "How important we think this is speaks for itself."

Slaughter also questioned the timing of the broadcast, which comes six weeks before the midterm elections.

"But what is far more important is the timing of this movie," said Rep. Slaughter. "The anniversary of the attacks is an emotional time, and it is wrong for anyone to play on those emotions and use them to advance a political agenda."

The New York Congresswoman also takes aim at some of the recent "rhetoric" issued by the Bush Administration and the Republican Party on Iraq, and the war on terror, in general.

"We have been told we are in a fight against a new kind of fascism, and that individuals who question our current path in Iraq are morally equivalent to Nazi appeasers and those who would justify slavery," Slaughter continued.

"Such claims are more than just morally reprehensible and deeply irresponsible," said Slaughter. "They are also damaging to our country, making it difficult, if not impossible, to have a serious, non-partisan discussion about how best to protect our nation."

She still seems to be missing the BIG PICTURE here.

please - everyone go there and sign the letter.

I can't believe a major TV station would rewrite history and slander Clinton for 9/11.
