The question of the day is:

Have You Ever HEARD Thermate In Action? (http://legalwar.org)

I need to find an expert to see if that high pitched noise occurs when steel and thermite meet.

Anyone know any? I'm looking online.

there are some videos available on the internet that show the thermite rxn. i'm not sure how well they captured the sound.

also, if i recall correctly, the paper by dr. jones has a link to a small scale thermite rxn.

i've seen a small scale thermite rxn in a freshmen chem. demo. (a long time ago) and it is quite vigorous generating some noise.

as for how it would sound when in contact with steel on a large scale, i'm not sure.

a good place to look would be in building demolition videos.

Link should work now. I had to fix some errors with my blog application and it's working well now. The host is still have some sort of issue with their coldfusion server so sometimes it throws a java server error but the server restarts in a few mins. I am hoping they have this fixed this week.

I am in the process of obtaining a large steel beam. My dad works with steel and thermite is easy to make so I'll do my own little experiment.

FYI, I emailed your information to Steven Jones. He appreciated the videos, but said that in all the recent work he has done with thermite/thermate that it emits no such sound.

I was wondering if in the thermite video you had if that wasnt some other background noise or distortion, do you know the source? Perhaps having the full video from before the thermite was lit would show if the reaction was the source of the sound..

Well how bout that. The internet has made the world a much smaller place.

In a good way.
