A friend of mine is collecting signatures under a petition to put the question on the November ballot in Malden, MA (http://www.ci.malden.ma.us/), "Should the US forces withdraw from Iraq immediately?" I haven't seen the petition yet so this is not the precise wording.

This way or the other, the time is short as the paperwork will need to be submitted in a matter of days. There must be a minimum of 200 signatures; so, to put it simply, every single one counts. Some people have agreed to sign it already, so there's not that many to go.

Regardless of what your personal opinion is on the situation in Iraq and the necessity of the American presence there I believe the very fact that the society is divided on the issue as well as the paramount importance of the issue is reason enough to see that this issue is addressed in the electoral forum.
